Ron Howard Explains Decision to Keep Gay Reference in The Dilemma

A couple weeks ago, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper called out The Dilemma.
He criticized the upcoming Vince Vaughn movie for introducing its trailer with a reference about how electric cars are "gay." Since then, the studio has removed the line from the preview and Vaughn has expressed his opinion on the topic. Read it NOW.
As for the quote itself, director Ron Howard told The Los Angeles Times over the weekend that it will remain in the film.
“I believe in sensitivity but not censorship," he said. "I feel that our film is taking additional heat as an emblem for many movies and TV shows that preceded it that have even more provocative characterizations and language. It is a slight moment in The Dilemma meant to demonstrate an aspect of our lead character’s personality, and we never expected it to represent our intentions or the point of view of the movie or those of us who made it.”
Howard said it was "appropriate" for Universal to axe the line from the trailer, but The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation isn't pleased with the decision not to eliminate it entirely.
"By leaving it in the movie, they are now contributing to the problem," the organization said in a statement. "The conversations started as a result of the community’s response to this slur will help schools, media and parents understand the impact of the word ‘gay’ being used as a pejorative. Hopefully in the future, Universal and Ron Howard will recognize the power of their words and use their films to bring people together rather than drive us apart.”

Friend Worries Andy Dick "Is Going to Kill Himself"

Charlie Sheen may have snorted cocaine, paid a porn star for sex and screamed the N word in his hotel room last week - but the actor comes across as Mother Teresa when compared with Andy Dick.
Rarely does a month go by without that rarely-employed actor in an embarrassing, illegal situation, from arrests for sexual abuse to public drunken outbursts to the world's best mug shot.
But has the D-lister's behavior finally caught up to him? Might he suffer the most dire consequences of all?
A Constant Dick
Andy Dick is anything but A-OK.
"Andy has openly talked to me about committing suicide and he has definitely hit rock bottom at this point," a friend tells Radar Online. "Unless he gets help fast then he's going to kill himself because he is totally out of control just now."
This anonymous source says he spent time with Dick two weeks in Virginia.
The former Newsradio star allegedly begged his pal for $250,000 because he owed "lawyer fees and back taxes," while the insider says Andy "would start drinking as soon as he got up in the morning and would be really abusive to people."
It's been confirmed that police were called to Dick's hotel room in Innsbrook in mid-October, while the actor also exposed himself at Café Audrey in Hollywood last Monday afternoon.
"He stood up, took out his dick and said something like, 'This is me!'" an onlooker said of the latter incident. "After that he staggered out down the street, making quite the commotion once he left... I actually felt bad for the guy."
The world might soon be saying the same thing if he doesn't get serious help.

Is Charlie Sheen Really "Going to Die This Week?"

TWO AND A HALF MEN, Charlie Sheen Warner Bros.
Heard the one about Charlie Sheen's wild rampage in Los Angeles following last week's hospitalization in New York? The partying that's supposedly so overboard that one unnamed "close friend" of the actor is quoted in RadarOnline.com saying that "Charlie Sheen is going to die this week."
Well, the Two and Half Men star's manager says those reports are "complete bullsh-t."
And he's just getting warmed up...

"I went over to Charlie's house earlier today because I was worried after reading RadarOnline," Burg writes in a email. "Complete bullsh-t fabricated lies!!!
"Charlie was alone watching Brett Farve getting beat up by New England. He looked at me like I was nuts for coming into his house. 'Dude, you could have knocked,' he said.
"Charlie is fine and will be at work on Tuesday."
We guess that settles that.

Andy Richter Kicks Jay Leno While He's Down

Dana Edelson/NBC
Conan O'Brien's sidekick is getting a small, well, kick, out of Jay Leno's lackluster ratings.
"I don't want to wish ill will on anybody, but I would be lying to you if I said it didn't feel a little bit fun to hear that—that there wasn't some kind of feeling of reward in that," Andy Richter tells the New York Post when the subject is brought up that Leno's return to the Tonight Show has led to fewer viewers than when Conan was manning the late-night ship.
MORE: Andy Richter doesn't know how to quit Conan
"It is kind of vindicating in a way. I think that one of the reasons we ended up leaving was because of their impatience with us," he adds. "And I think that was a mistake on their part. So I had a hunch about that, and it is nice to have that hunch seemingly proven true."
Richter, who will be joining his pal, yet again, when Conan debuts on TBS Nov. 8, admits he's very excited about the new venture since it doesn't involve replacing anybody (i.e., Leno, and David Letterman before him).
"We are starting from scratch here," he says. "So there are no footsteps to follow in. It is like our first grownup party where we don't have to worry about our parents coming home and yelling at us about doing something wrong."

Vicki Gunvalson's mystery ailment has been identified and dealt with by doctors, and the Real Housewives of Orange County star is out of the hospital.

"I am doing much better," Gunvalson, 48, tells PEOPLE in a statement. "I was released from the hospital Friday afternoon after the doctors performed a colonoscopy and found several ulcers in the colon that they were able to fix and stop the bleeding."

She had been hospitalized Thursday after experiencing gastrointestinal problems.

Gunvalson says her daughter Briana was "by my side the entire time," and that her husband Donn – from whom she recently filed for divorce after 16 years of marriage – was at the hospital with her as well.

Gunvalson said she was planning to return to work on Monday morning.

Lily Allen Loses Baby

Mike Marsland/Wireimage
"Deeply distressing" doesn't really cover it.
Lily Allen's rep has confirmed the devastating news that the British pop star has suffered a miscarriage six months into what seemed to be an otherwise healthy pregnancy.
"It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby," her publicist, Murray Chalmers, said today.
PHOTOS: Baby Bumpin'
The 25-year-old announced in August that she was expecting a child with her 32-year-old boyfriend. She was three months along at the time.
"The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time," Chalmers said.
Sadly for Allen, it's the second time she has suffered a miscarriage.
Back in January 2008, just a month after announcing that she was expecting a child with then-beau Ed Simmons of the Chemical Brothers,  the "Not Fair" singer confirmed she had lost the baby.
As for Lily, her friends are already stepping up to help her out through this difficult time.
She was due to perform at an AIDS fundraiser for Elton John in London a few days ago, but was forced to pull out. She said she was suffering from a viral infection, but since she was pregnant, was unable to take medication and was forced to remain on bed rest. Elton took the stage instead in her absence.
It's unclear if that illness had anything to do with her loss.

Courteney Cox Finally Talks Split: "This Is Not Like We're Getting Divorced"

Courteney Cox, David Arquette John Shearer/WireImage.com
There's hope for these two yet.
Courteney Cox has finally addressed the split from hubby David Arquette, opening up about the topic for the first time by saying they're still trying to work things out.
"I don't know what will happen, but this is not like we're getting divorced," Cox said in the interview with People.
So what's with the back and forth?
MORE: Uh oh—David and Courteney don't have a prenup
"This is a separation, and I think that takes a lot of courage," Cox added. "Whatever is supposed to happen will be the best thing for us."
But the Friends star still admitted all wasn't rosy in the Cox-Arquette separation, acknowledging that the duo has been living separate lives for some time.
"Sometimes you just realize 'Wow, we actually have grown apart,' " she said of their 11-year marriage.
The two announced their split in early October with a brief statement:
MORE: Five celeb couples who split and got back together
"We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time. The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage. We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply. As we go though this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together."
As for the "kindness and understanding" part, Arquette has been tweeting and using Howard Stern as a platform to jabber on and on about his hookups and his heartbreak.
But Cox is taking it all in stride.
"[David] is a kook. It's not shocking. And Howard Stern, he loves him and I'm a fan of Howard Stern. David is an entertainer and I'm sure the people who listen to the radio are entertained by his stories," she said.
It's not just talk on Courteney's part, either. The two have appeared in public together and spent Halloween with 6-year-old daughter Coco—David even tweeted that Courteney's sunflower outfit looks "incredible."

Mel Gibson's Depo -- Listen To the Tapes, Mel

Mel Gibson could be forced during his deposition today to listen to his now infamous tirades that Oksana secretly taped -- if Oksana Grigorieva's legal team has its way ... TMZ has learned.

Sources connected with the case tell us Oksana's lawyers are "seriously considering" playing the tapes in front of Mel, partly to show that he physically abused Oksana and partly to prove he's an unfit parent.  We're told the lawyers want to ask Mel about alleged domestic violence, the rants, the works.

This is the first time Mel will testify under oath in the custody case ... and we're told Oksana's lawyers are viewing it as a "no holds barred" deposition.

Sources say Oksana's legal team will use certain statements Mel has made about his conduct on January 6 -- the day of the blowout fight -- as well as other statements to challenge his credibility.

The defense believes if Mel asserts his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during the depo, Oksana's team can use that against him by pointing to the earlier statements.

As for playing the tapes in the depo ... there are big hurdles.  First, our sources say the judge has imposed ground rules requiring lawyers to stay away from the domestic violence issue.  Nonetheless ... the defense believes it still has the right to ask the questions.

The bigger hurdle ... Oksana and her lawyers do not have the original recordings, and Mel's lawyers will almost certainly object to a bootlegged copy being played.

We're told the depo will "definitely" last longer than a day.

Oksana to Use Cameo Role Against Mel Gibson

A statement Mel Gibson made about his mental health in an independent movie will be used in his deposition today if Oksana Grigorieva's lawyers have their way ... sources tell TMZ.

The documentary, titled "Acting Class of 1977," is about high-profile actors who graduated from Australia's foremost acting school -- the National Institute of Dramatic Art.  It aired on Australian TV in 2008.

In the documentary, Mel purportedly says, "I had really good highs but some very low lows.  I found out recently I'm manic depressive."

Tila Tequila Granted a Restraining Order Against Garry Sun

Tila Tequila has turned the tables on Garry Sun.
Late last week, a judge granted a restraining order for this sad sack of a celebrity blogger against the photographer who accused her of kidnapping his girlfriend, Shyla Jennings.
The legal documents state that Sun must remain 10 yards away from Tequila at all times, which is a hilariously tiny figure. He could totally still toss rocks or something at Tila from that distance.
Tila and Her Cleavage
Following the issuing of this order of protection, Tila told TMZ she's set to file a lawsuit against Sun for "making such crazy allegations about me." But there's another twist that casts doubt on the validity of this story:
Jennings says she no clue who Garry Sun is. No way he and Tequila are working together to desperately extend the latter's 15 minutes of fame, right? That just doesn't sound like something Tila would do at all.

'I want a coat. You get cold in a tweed jacket.' he tells The Sun. 'And I want a hat. Not all the time. Just now and again.'

Gordon Ramsay's father-in-law: He sacked me

Chris Hutcheson claims he didn't quit his job with Gordon Ramsay Holdings
TV chef Gordon looks an odd colour at a celebration of his new restaurant Gordon Ramsay At The London in Los Angeles.
Gordon Ramsay and Chris Hutcheson set up GRH in 1998
Gordon Ramsay's father-in-law has claimed that he was fired as CEO of his company.
Last month, Gordon Ramsay Holdings announced that the chef had ended his 12-year working partnership with Chris Hutcheson.
But the 62-year-old now alleges it was not a mutual decision.
'I was sacked and I don't understand it,' says Chris. 'We could have sat down and had an amicable divorce and worked things out if we were to part company.
'But he didn't do that. The reason behind all of this is Gordon, and not me, as far as I'm concerned.'
Since the announcement, there have been unsubstantiated rumours that the rift occured because Chris took loans of almost £1.5m from the company.
He strongly denies any wrongdoing and explains that any loans were paid back.
'There was certainly no question of me stealing money,' Chris tells The Mail On Sunday. 'Every penny in that company, coming in or going out, is recorded for all to see.'
Chris - who is now taking legal action against GRH for wrongful dismissal - says he hasn't spoken to his daughter Tana or son-in-law Gordon, 44, since.
'It is a hugely awkward situation with my daughter married to him,' he adds. 'How would it feel for any man to lose a daughter? And that is what has happened.'
Gordon and Tana have released a statement in response to Chris' claims.
'It has been made very clear to Chris why his position with the company had become untenable,' it reads.
'As far as Gordon and Tana are concerned this is a private business and family matter and they won't be responding publicly.'

The 2 female judges remained seated after the singer's performance of White Knuckle Ride and didn't even clap.
The panel usually give guest performers a standing ovation, as they did with Bon Jovi and Rihanna last night.
